Peepswiz has started a dedicated fact-check initiative. For the purpose of determining the veracity and applicability of situations and statements made by individuals in public life, we examine and investigate them.
As well as picking up on issues where we feel there is a strong need to examine data that is in the public domain. We decided to separate it into its own section as a result of our efforts.
Diverse Coverage- Beyond Politics
Although political fact-checking accounts for a sizable portion of our work, Peepswiz does not exclusively focus on politics, unlike many other websites in the online fact-checking world.
We have long followed the rule that we write about whatever readers are interested in learning about or searching for, as well as rumors that are going around online that might cause confusion and fabricated trivia. This rule is free of any partisan bias.
Republican/Democratic, conservative/liberal, or religious/secular issues are not factors we consider when deciding which stories to cover or which to omit. No matter how important, contentious, obvious, or superficial (or lack thereof) a tip may seem to be, we are always interested in hearing about it. We are, of course, limited in how much we can cover by our available resources and staffing.
Reader-Centric Approach
The terms entered into our search engine, reader email submissions, comments and questions posted to our Twitter and Facebook accounts, and what is trending on Google and social media sites are some of the inputs we use to gauge reader interest.
The things we talk about come in a variety of formats, such as (but not limited to) printed material, articles from other websites and publications, social media posts, image macros and memes, videos, and text that is shared online.
Data Journalism and Policy Research
Peepswiz is a data journalism and policy research organization that focuses on topics like health, sanitation, law and justice, education, the environment, employment, innovation, science, and the plight of underprivileged groups that should but are frequently not, in the public eye. This is the method we use to accomplish that:
Fact-Checking Process
Identify claims: As part of our fact-checking initiative, Peepswiz keeps a close eye on news and social media to identify statements made by public figures or official government reports. Additionally, readers who come across any claim can submit their thoughts to [email protected].
Verify accuracy/context: We use official information in the public domain, such as data from government databases, international think tanks, research organizations, and other reliable sources, to help confirm or refute the claims. Because the context and historical perspective are missing, it happens frequently that claims are found to be true but misleading. In these situations, we give background information about the disputed claim.
No matter whether the claim is accurate or not, we get in touch with the source of the information to make sure we include their point of view and, as a result, give our readers a more complete and nuanced picture of the situation.
Speak to experts: You need experts in addition to data and facts to demonstrate how everything applies in practice and affects a larger population. To provide unbiased and knowledgeable inputs for a well-rounded story, Peepswiz relies on the knowledge of specialists in a particular field.
Write and check: Peepswiz makes sure the article is read by a second set of eyes after it has been written. We publish the article after all the gaps have been filled and plugged. Adjectives and opinions are not things we appreciate at Peepswiz.
Sources
We make every effort to use nonpartisan information and data sources when fact-checking, giving preference whenever practical to peer-reviewed journals and statistics from recognized government organizations. We stress the importance of treating information from partisan think tanks and political advocacy groups with suspicion.
We maintain a “Sources” section at the end of each of our fact-check articles, where readers can find a thorough list of published sources, both in print and digital formats, that we quote from, refer to, or use as background information.
Readers can easily access this section by clicking on the expandable link that says “Sources” and then choosing whether or not to show the source listings.
We do not list sources separately in the Sources section when we contact people or organizations for comments via email or telephone; instead, we include this information within the body of our articles.
For illustration or informational purposes, we may also incorporate non-separately cited sources—like YouTube videos and social media posts—into our articles as embedded media.
Corrections Policy
We promptly correct factual errors and provide explanations for any potentially confusing or ambiguous statements in our articles as part of our commitment to accuracy and transparency.
Through the Contact form, readers are invited to submit any potential corrections; these submissions are then reviewed by our editors to determine the best course of action.
Minor edits, such as those that correct spelling or typographical errors, that are not regarded as significant, are not specifically noted by our editorial team.
Every time we make a change, such as revising the fact check’s rating, updating a significant supporting fact (even if it does not affect the overall rating), or adding critical new information to a previously published article, we make sure to explain and document the change in an Update box at the end of the article.
Through the Contact form, readers can submit possible corrections; these submissions will be forwarded to an editor for consideration and action.
