SNL Alums, Kate McKinnon and Others Take the Center Stage in 2023 Finale

The last episode of Saturday Night Live in 2023 was a nostalgic treat for fans as it invited back a few cherished alumni of the sketch comedy show.

The episode, hosted by Kate McKinnon, saw the arrival of Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph during an exceptional moment in the monologue.

As Kate McKinnon graced the Studio 8H stage, she amusingly commented on the peculiarity of getting back to her “old job” for the speech.

Known for her assorted character depictions, McKinnon conceded, “I don’t really like to talk in my own voice. That’s kind of why I got into this racket in the first place.”

She brazenly made sense of her departure from SNL the earlier year, ascribing it to her skin responding inadequately to the prosthetics worn for different characters over her 10-year residency.

“I’ve never been myself in a monologue before,” McKinnon confessed. She playfully highlighted her usual role as “the freak next to the hot person” in past monologues with other hosts.

Acknowledging the significant year she had, thanks to her role as the “weird Barbie” in Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster, she shared a humorous anecdote about the reaction she received on the first day: “‘Oh my God, you look perfect,’ and I was like, ‘These are my clothes.'”

In an astounding development, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph showed up during McKinnon’s monologue, creating a profound moment.

The trio shared a charming trade, with McKinnon playing out a spin on the exemplary holiday song “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” for SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels.

The verses were changed to mirror the peculiar SNL humor, with lines like “Feed me figs and make me wigs/reactivate my ID.”

Wiig and Rudolph then joined McKinnon in front of an audience for an endearing version of one more song to finish off the monologue.

“We came home for Christmas/It’s time to start the show.”  This get-together was a superb treat for fans who valued the chemistry of these SNL veterans.

Billie Eilish, showing up on SNL, was the melodic guest and treated the crowd to her facilitating abilities. Having recently been the melodic guest in 2019 and both host and melodic guest in 2021, Eilish’s return denoted one more significant moment for the show.

Before her performance of “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack, an unexpected appearance by Greta Gerwig, alongside McKinnon, added to the fervor.

Gerwig presented the singer with an appearance, making way for Eilish’s heavenly melodic contribution.

Pondering the aggregate effect of the SNL alums present on the episode, McKinnon’s hosting spell, Wiig and Rudolph’s unexpected appearances, and Eilish’s return displayed the enduring tradition of Saturday Night Live.

McKinnon’s very long-term contribution, Wiig’s critical characters from 2005 to 2012, and Rudolph’s spell from 2000 to 2007 featured the rich history and enduring impact of these comedic abilities on the famous sketch comedy show.

As the last episode of 2023 wrapped up, it engaged viewers with humor and music as well as praised the enduring soul of SNL, which, over a wide period, flawlessly mixed for an evening of nostalgia and laughter.
