Hollywood is known for its blockbusters, but some movies, despite being completed, never make it to theaters. These hidden gems, like “All-Star Weekend” with Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx, or “Coyote vs. Acme,” starring John Cena, remain tucked away due to unexpected delays, legal battles, or controversies. These films are tantalizing mysteries, leaving audiences wondering what could have been. Discover the movies that never saw the light of day.
All-star Weekend
This movie revolves around two NBA fans who win tickets to an All-Star game. This movie, which starred Robert Downey Jr., Jamie Foxx, Jeremy Piven, and Eva Longoria, was supposed to be released back in 2018 but kept getting delayed in post-production. Eventually, it was shelved for unknown reasons.
Coyote vs Acme
Remember Wile E. Coyote from Looney Tunes? Well, he was about to have his own movie, but sadly, that did not happen. It also had a very imaginative premise—in it, Coyote would’ve been seen battling a company named Acme Corporation. Inspired by the events of the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit, it starred John Cena and Will Forte as lawyers on the opposing ends. However, the movie was not released due to undisclosed reasons.
Empires of the Deep
This movie, directed by Jon Jiang, was a joint US-Chinese venture of the action-adventure genre. It featured an underwater ‘clash of the clans’ type of situation occurring between two mermaid kingdoms living under the sea. The movie had a lavish budget and as many as three directors, but it never got to take off.
The Fantastic Four
This might be a bit confusing for you since, as we all know, The Fantastic Four movie was released around nineteen years ago. However, what not many people know is that before the 2005 movie, there was a 1994 version of it that was fully shot, completed pre-production, and was ready for release. However, unknown reasons interfered with its release. All promotions were stopped and the movie was never released.
The Long Home
The Long Home, a movie produced, directed, and acted in by James Long, never saw the light of day. It also starred Josh Hutcherson and Josh Hartnett. One of the reasons why it never got released is that the main character of the movie, Long, had a slew of sexual misconduct allegations against him.
Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon
This would’ve been a one-of-a-kind movie. Based on an absurd rumor that Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, and Michael Jackson were supposed to take a road trip together following 9/11, this movie would’ve been a sure-shot hit with its off-beat premise. However, the casting of the movie( a white actor was cast as Michel Jackson) was the reason why it was scrapped.
Batgirl
This movie, shot in 2022, had Leslie Grace in the titular role and Michael Keaton reprising his role as a multiverse Batman. However, things came to a screeching halt when Warner Bros refused to release the movie, citing reasons related to cost-cutting. There are also other speculations that the movie was simply bad, but given Marvel’s track record, nobody can accuse them of being scared of crappy movies.
Black Water Transit
Everything was going alright with this one. The movie, based on a Carsten Stroud novel, was all set to be released with its strong plot and impressive cast. But then came along a shitstorm, when the movie producers, investors, and writers got caught up in lawsuits and dragged one another to court.
In God’s Hands
The movie starred Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard. It was a plain stroke of bad luck since the negative of the movie was ‘irreparably damaged, according to reports. However, there has been no believable explanation of how that occurred. We guess this is what gives credence to the saying, ‘Man proposes, God disposes’.
