15 Sitcom Actors You Didn’t Know Had Passed Away

We have watched and loved a ton of sitcoms over the years. Some sitcoms ended years ago but they are still a part of our lives. We watch them, laugh and cry with the characters and actors of the popular sitcoms, but you know some of the actors from these shows have sadly passed away, which has left us broken and disappointed. Even though we haven’t met these actors in person, we felt a sense of connectedness and a bond with them through these sitcoms and their characters. These sitcom actors deserve everything for making us laugh and be happy on a bad day.

James Avery

NBC/YouTube

We loved James Avery for his amazing acting skills and unmatchable comic timing but sadly, we lost him back in 2013. It was one of the saddest days we had to go through because, when we connected to James Avery through his iconic character Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, we never thought we would have to go through such a tough day. Yet here we are today without James Avery, as he died due to complications following open-heart surgery.

Lisa Robin Kelly

IMDb

We never thought that one day Lisa Robin Kelly would be replaced by Christina Moore as Laurie Forman on That ’70s Show. Lisa Robin Kelly was replaced because of her alcoholism, which was getting out of control. She once stated that it all started when she had a miscarriage. However, no one had ever thought that we would lose Lisa Robin Kelly so soon and all of a sudden. Lisa died of a drug overdose while she was in rehab.

John Ritter

ABC

We have known John Ritter for his role as Jack Tripper on Three’s Company. We loved his impeccable acting skills. However, unfortunately, we didn’t get a long time with him, as he died when he was just 54. We couldn’t believe that a hospital and the doctors could be so careless as to give patients a false diagnosis, which can lead to their death, as happened with John Ritter. He died of aortic dissection because he was misdiagnosed with a heart attack and died during surgery to repair the tear.

Merlin Santana

Brett Dove/YouTube

We couldn’t get a long time with this box of talent. Merlin Santana was indeed a talented actor whose acting career only lasted for a decade. Well, he had to leave this world when he was shot dead by 19-year-old Damien Andre Gates. Well, it was a fully planned assassination and we still couldn’t get over the loss of a kind soul due to false allegations.

Matthew Perry

NBC

Our hearts sank when we first got the news of our favorite, Matthew Perry, dying in late October 2023. We remember how eagerly we waited for him and the other cast members of Friends’ reunion in 2021 and when it happened, we were over the top happy but who would have known that our happiness was short-lived? In late October, Friends fame Matthew Perry was found dead at his home, in his hot tub. After a lot of speculation, we finally got the reason behind his death. He died because of ketamine and buprenorphine, and he also had coronary artery disease. On top of these reasons, he died in the hot tub pool, leading his way to peace.

Bill Bixby

Bill Bixby
NBC

Remember Tim O’Hara on My Favorite Martian, which was played by Bill Bixby? Well, we know we liked him a lot but to our disappointment, he left us shortly after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Well, some diseases go out of hand and leave us grieving for our loved ones and that’s what happened with Bill Bixby. After his diagnosis, he died quickly of prostate cancer.

Cindy Williams

ABC

Some characters are relatable and sometimes they live in us forever, even after the show ends and even when we are left with the actors’ memories and that’s exactly what happened to us. Cindy Williams’ character Shirley was our favorite from Laverne and Shirley. Her character was a quiet, easy-going girl with whom we related and loved a lot throughout the sitcom. So, when Cindy Williams died in 2023, we were left shattered but you know we don’t have lives and deaths in our hands.

Bonnie Franklin

IMDb

Bonnie Franklin won our hearts with her iconic role as Ann Romano on One Day at a Time. However, as much as we loved her, we were left heartbroken when it was announced that she had pancreatic cancer in 2012, and within less than a year, she left this world.

Meshach Taylor

Meshach Taylor
IMDb

Meshach Taylor always had a smiling face, which gave him positive energy. Maybe that’s why he never failed to make us laugh, except for one time when he died on June 28, 2014, at age 67. The news of his death shattered us but we knew that he was fighting colorectal cancer.

Marcia Wallace

IMDb

Marcia Wallace was our beloved actress, as was Carol Kester on The Bob Newhart Show. There is no doubt that she was a great actress and did her every role with perfection. Although we did feel sad when she died, looking at her health, she deserved peace. So, hopefully, her death brought her peace because she was already suffering from breast cancer and then died of pneumonia and sepsis.

Glenn Quinn

Glenn Quinn
IMDb

How can we ever forget our beloved Glenn Quinn and his memorable character, Mark Healy, on Roseanne? However, unfortunately, we had to lose him quite young, as he had an accidental overdose, which led to his death at 32. Well, it was quite disturbing to see your favorite person die due to substance abuse. Not to forget, Glenn Quinn was suffering from addiction for quite a while.

Phil Hartman

Phil Hartman
IMDb

Well, Phil Hartman’s death was quite tragic and we never thought of witnessing any such incident but we left shocked, just like the entire Hollywood. Phil Hartman, who became popular due to his hilarious character Bill McNeal on NewsRadio, was shot by his wife, Brynn Omdahl, and to our surprise, his wife killed herself just after killing her husband.

Charlotte Rae

Charlotte Rae
IMDb

Charlotte Rae did a fantastic job in her entire life. The most popular character was Edna Garrett on The Facts of Life, through which we still remember her and maybe the upcoming generation will remember her for this too. She held a special place in our hearts; perhaps that’s why, when she died at 95, we were saddened. She had pancreatic cancer but died of bone cancer.

Conchata Ferrell

YouTube/Screenshot

Conchata Ferrell was great on Two and a Half Men as Berta. We sometimes still miss her wit from the show but unfortunately, she had to leave this world due to complications following a cardiac arrest. We couldn’t help but think about her sometimes and truly, she was a great person with a kind heart. In her last days, she was kept in severe healthcare but still couldn’t make it alive.

Gary Coleman

Gary Coleman
NBC

We will always remember Gary Coleman as Arnold Jackson on Diff’rent Strokes. He was a fun and jolly character who unfortunately died of an epidural hematoma. An unfortunate accident in which Coleman fell and hit his head led to his brain hemorrhage and after slipping into a coma, he was taken off life support.
