Sitcoms are meant to be a source of laughter, but some have fallen flat. From poorly executed premises to cringe-worthy characters, these shows have earned a reputation as some of the worst on television. Let us talk about the sitcoms that left viewers wanting more—anything but these programs.
Work It
“Work It” was a sitcom, or television comedy show, that only had two episodes aired in 2012. The story was based on two male individuals who could not secure employment due to a poor job market and thus had to cross-dress to land employment.
Small Wonder
In “Small Wonder,” there is an engineer who designs a robot child, a daughter specifically named Vicki. Even though it was aired for four seasons, the humor was rather weak and the viewers complained about Vicki’s annoying robotic voice.
Are We There Yet?
Despite being based on the 2005 movie of the same name, the “Are We There Yet?” sitcom did not quite live up to the original. Nonetheless, the show was poorly received and described as a generic family comedy after it aired for three seasons without any jokes.
Kath & Kim
The well-known Australian sitcom Kath & Kim centers on the dysfunctional lives of Kim Craig and Kath Day-Knight, a mother-daughter duo. As a spin-off from this Australian show, this American adaptation didn’t measure up. It was written poorly and executed worse, which led to a sharp decrease in the number of viewers.
Talia in the Kitchen
This Nickelodeon series revolves around a teenage girl, aged 14, who is fond of cooking and has magical spices. It was aired for half a year and was canceled after one season because of low ratings and negative critics; however, the show produced 40 episodes.
Veronica’s Closet
“Veronica’s Closet” was started with some promise, but it turned out to be a dud. Although it was placed right after “Seinfeld” and before “ER” in the most popular evening, it lost the viewers as soon as it was moved to another time.
Baby Bob
This show, “Baby Bob,” was based on a talking baby, which was a pretty weak point and people soon grew tired of it. Created from one of the characters in the commercials, the sitcom could not maintain the funny tone and was quickly removed after only nine episodes.
That ’70s Show
This sitcom was created from the formula that was used for “That ‘70s Show,” but never really got off the ground. This one was a continuation of the series set in the 1980s, with a new cast and plot, and was not nearly as entertaining as the first.
Harry and the Hendersons
The TV adaptation of “Harry and the Hendersons,” which is based on the 1987 film, was disappointing. Nonetheless, the show was fired after three seasons, but the fans could not notice the efforts of the creators in the development of interesting characters and jokes.
Marvin Marvin
‘Marvin Marvin’ was a show that featured Lucas Cruikshank, who was an alien living with a family. Some of the negatives that did not go well with the show include; excessive use of gross-out humor and overacting.
I Hate My Teenage Daughter
This show about single mothers and their pampered daughters did not make it into the hearts of the audience. The characters were unrealistic, and the whole writing was weak. Originally, low ratings caused its cancellation after one season.
Homeboys in Outer Space
A sci-fi parody sitcom, “Homeboys in Outer Space,” was considered to be a bad show due to its attempt at being funny and using racial stereotypes. Unfortunately, the quality of the show with some rare exceptions, was at a low level and the show was canceled after one season because of poor ratings and negative reviews.
2 Broke Girls
“2 Broke Girls” was a comedy series that depicted the lives of two young ladies with different backgrounds working at a diner to pay their bills in order to fulfill their aspirations. However, the show was soon condemned for its vulgar punch lines, ethnic prejudice, and excessive emphasis on sleaze.
Mulaney
This sitcom did not make the cut; it stars comedian John Mulaney. As has been the trend with most failed attempts, it was described in terms of ‘Seinfeld’ and other hit programs of the era. Due to this, the show “Mulaney” was canceled after one season, and thus did not effectively change the comedy scene.
