The cast of Friends has seen some amazing changes, starting from when they first gathered around the orange couch at Central Perk and continuing through their development into Hollywood icons. Every character—and actor—has had an incredible journey both on and off the screen, whether it is Monica’s transformation from obsessive chef to suburban mom or Ross’s never-ending romantic drama.
As we revisit these beloved faces, it’s fascinating to see how much has changed, yet how they still remain the friends we’ve adored for decades. With these old and new pictures of the Friends cast, let us take a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
Monica Geller (Courteney Cox)
She falls in love with her parent’s friend, Dr. Richard Burke, and later with her best friend, Chandler Bing. The couple brings an end to their friend’s progression with twin children and moves from New York City to the suburbs.
Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston)
She gets a job as a waitress in the coffee shop and rises to the top in the fashion business and still has an on-off affair with Ross. They have a daughter together, Emma, and in the finale, she is seen disembarking from a plane.
Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow)
Funny masseuse and guitar player Phoebe goes through the season of Friends in a very cheerful manner, singing, dating different guys, meeting her family again, and at the end, becoming a surrogate mom to her brother’s triplets. She also leaves Friends as a married woman to Mike Hannigan.
Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani)
He acted in blue lip balm commercials, plays about space, and as a man selling perfumes. He first falls in love with Rachel, but it does not happen, so he proceeds with sandwiches and acting.
Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry)
Chandler was the sarcastic one of the group with a job that nobody could recall, who had once gotten Monica and Rachel evicted to make the apartment his and Joey’s, and was a ladies’ man until he fell in love with Monica and married her.
Ross Geller (David Schwimmer)
It is rather sad, however, that poor old Ross is a broken man when the show starts, his marriage to Carol being over. Then he becomes a father to their son, Ben, falls in love with Rachel sustains an on-off-again relationship with her throughout the rest of the series, and gets married two more times.
Judi Geller (Christina Pickles)
An established actress before Friends—she played Romeo’s (Leonardo DiCaprio’s) mother in Baz Luhrman’s 1999 movie Romeo & Juliet—Pickles has since been seen in Legally Blonde, How I Met Your Mother, and the legal drama Doubt.
Jack Geller (Elliott Gould)
Judi’s husband and Ross and Monica’s rather clumsy and inattentive father, Jack Geller. Gould remained with the Ocean’s films with George Clooney and Brad Pitt and made a few appearances in Friends.
Carol (Jane Sibbett)
Ross’ ex-wife and the mother of his son, Ben who left him for Susan, whom he later married in the first season. Sibbett has had parts in children’s and teen shows such as Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, Ally McBeal, and Out Of Jimmy’s Head.
Aisha Tyler (Charlie)
This is until she comes across Joey, and she develops feelings for him. However, when she realizes that they have nothing in common, she dumps him for Ross, and they start dating Joey and Rachel sleep together, and Charlie leaves Ross and goes back to her former boyfriend, a Nobel Prize winner, Benjamin
Gunther (James Michael Tyler)
Gunther is the manager of the Central Perk, who is also a barista and is deeply in love with Rachel and that, of course, makes him dislike Ross. Tyler has been in Scrubs and Episodes with Le Blanc and has since been a regular at Friends-themed events every year.
Ben Geller (Cole/Dylan Sprouse)
The boys’ twins, Cole and Dylan Sprouse, both portrayed Ross and Carol’s son, Ben. The twins progressed to playing twins in Disney’s The Suite Life Of Zack and Cody before Cole joined the Netflix show Riverdale.
