We have watched so many TV shows over the years and almost every TV show has that one character who gets a complete transformation. Well, these characters might sometimes have character development, while other times they leave us disappointed with their degrading character. Because of these transformations over time, we have lost interest in many of our favorite characters because their transformed versions don’t do justice to the original characters. Well, character arcs are difficult to maintain in the right way.
Jan Levinson (The Office)
Well, Jan Levinson in The Office started as a good character—at least not someone illogical and non-sensical—but over time she became an unhinged and totally absurd character. Her development happened but backward. Let’s be honest, she was still bold but became quite annoying and intolerable.
Walter White (Breaking Bad)
We never imagined Walter White taking a 360-degree turn over the years because he was such a nice, decent guy with a job he loved. He was a chemistry teacher and doing pretty well yet when he became the drug lord, we were shook. Who would have thought a high school chemistry teacher could turn into a criminal? Well, definitely not us.
Winston Bishop (New Girl)
Winston Bishop from New Girl has to be our favorite character. In the initial episodes, we remembered him as a jerk but oh, we cannot deny that this guy has developed into one of the sweetest people on the show who is caring and looking after everyone. He is one of the best characters and the green flag of the show and his friendship is what we all crave in our lives.
Don Draper (Mad Men)
Don Draper in Mad Men has to have the best character arc ever. He was that mysterious, dark character who had a traumatizing and rough past and after the transformation, he literally went seeking redemption and experiencing his different versions and emotions. He grew into a fine man.
Rachel Green (Friends)
Remember in the first season of Rachel Green from Friends? She was such a spoilt brat of a rich family and was always dependent on her dad for everything. However, when she moved in with Monica and became friends with everyone else, her transformation was visible. Before, she felt like a shallow woman but after transformation, she was the most caring person in the room and an independent woman who made a living for herself.
Eric Matthews (Boy Meets World)
Remember Eric Matthews from Boy Meets World? He was such a charming, sweet, and somewhat intelligent guy, but day by day he turned into a dumb character. His behavior was turning into that of a stupid cartoonish boy and he just didn’t feel the same. His charm and smarts were lost and we definitely liked the before transformation of Eric Matthews.
Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother)
Who would have thought Barney Stinson would change for the better? Well, guess love makes everything possible because when Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother fell in love with Robin, we could see how this womanizing and commitment-phobic guy transformed himself for his love and did everything to love, Robin.
Alex Dunphy (Modern Family)
Well, we never thought that Alex Dunphy from Modern Family would be so different and confident but that’s what we always wanted. Alex was a socially awkward child who finally grew into the most confident and bold person who wasn’t socially anxious anymore. That’s the transformation everyone wants in their lives.
Rick Grimes (The Walking Dead)
We expect bravery from a sheriff and maybe that’s why Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead transformed into an ambiguous leader of survivors in the post-apocalyptic world. Well, he did a great job as the leader and that’s how morally rational a leader should be.
Tara Maclay (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Remember the time when we first saw Tara Maclay in Buffy the Vampire Slayer? She was shy, underconfident, and extremely insecure, but with time she grew into this beautiful witch who wasn’t insecure anymore, was a lot more confident, and was a powerful member of the Scooby Gang. We loved how beautifully she transformed into such a strong character.
