10 M*A*S*H Actor We’ve Sadly Lost

The period of 1972-1983 was a time when M*A*S*H reigned the airwaves. Set during the Korean War, it was more than just a series. It left an indelible mark on history by highlighting the absurdities of war with a touch of humor.

Unfortunately, many of its legendary characters are no longer with us. Why not take a moment to remember 10 such M*A*S*H actors whom we’ve lost?

McLean Stevenson

Who can forget the bumbling yet kind-hearted Lt. Colonel Henry Blake? His departure from the show after his plane was shot down was shocking. But more shocking was when we actually lost Stevenson in 1996.

Larry Linville

Despite being a character whose audience loved to hate Linville’s portrayal as Major Frank Burns, it remained memorable.

His infamously uptight and self-righteous role still elicits laughs and groans at the same time. It was quite grieving to lose such a persona in 2000.

Herb Voland

General Crandall Clayton, was a representation of the higher-ups in the military hierarchy. This limited role of an authoritative general was played by Herb Voland.  However, his demise in 1981 made him stay more in our hearts than on the screens.

His portrayal of the hilariously paranoid character Colonel Flagg was one of the major sources of delight.

His high-class antics as a bumbling CIA operative gave us some of the most strange funny moments. Though he passed away in 2001 his role as Flagg is still engraved in our hearts.

Allan Arbus

Remember the psychiatrist Dr. Sidney Freedman who occasionally visited 4077th? Although we lost Allan Arbus in 2013 his calm demeanor and comforting presence as Freedman can never be forgotten.

Wayne Rogers

Who can forget Hawkeye’s original partner in crime, Trapper John? Though Rogers left M*A*S*H after three seasons he remained one of the favorite figures. His audiences’ love was to such an extent that they still remember him after his demise in 2015.

William Christopher

The gentle and kind Father Francis Mulcahy remains one of the most cherished personas of the series. Being a moral center of the series William Christopher remains a beloved figure even after he died in 2016.

David Ogden Stiers

He brought a taste of sophistication and class into the series through the character of Major Winchester.

Gradually he became one of the beloved characters who left a rich legacy of work. We lost him in 2018 from bladder cancer.

Harry Morgan

The no-nonsense yet fatherly Colonel Potter was played by Harry Morgan. He joined in the fourth season but soon won the hearts of viewers with his warmth and wisdom. However, we lost him in 2011 at the age of 96.
